
A strong fourth quarter helped Webster County break the hearts of the Caldwell County Lady Tigers in a Valentine’s Day matchup at the CAB gym.
The Lady Trojans overcame a four-point deficit to post a 60-53 victory on Caldwell’s Senior Night.
Webster (11-16) outscored Caldwell 17-8 in the final period while overcoming a four-point second-half deficit in what had been a tight contest all night.
The Lady Trojans led 18-17 after one quarter and got to halftime with a 32-28 advantage.
But Caldwell (10-14) rallied ahead 45-43 through three periods.
However, the Lady Tigers could not hold the fourth-quarter lead in falling to Webster for the second time this season.
The Lady Trojans were 8-for-8 at the free throw line in the decisive final frame.
Jaycie Wright had 22 points to lead Webster, which also got 12 from Hannah Yates and 11 from Karsyn Cates.
Tink Clark led Caldwell with 18 points. Morgan Aikins added 12 and KeDarriah Thompson had 11.
Webster has now taken 20 straight meetings against Caldwell dating back to February of 2007. The Lady Trojans lead the all-time series 60-16.
Caldwell’s girls have now dropped four of their last five games this season. Things don’t get any easier on Tuesday when the Lady Tigers pay a visit to Christian County (15-9).
Caldwell then finishes the regular season on Friday with a trip to Livingston Central.
