
Lyon County has been a team of runs over the past few seasons and it was another one of those runs Saturday afternoon that finally knocked down a gritty effort from the Trigg County Wildcats. The Lyons picked up the road district win by a final score of 95-72.
Lyon County saw Trigg County close to within 9 points twice in the final quarter, the final time coming at 78-69 with 4:23 to go in the game. The Lyons then unleashed a 17-3 run to finish the game and claim their 5th straight win of the season and their 18th straight win over the Wildcats.
Thanks to the long ball, the Wildcats trailed only 19-15 after the opening quarter. Five different Trigg County players scored in the quarter with Davaree Gude, Landon Swann, and Lance Breckel all making a three.
Lyon County’s defensive pressure and its strength down in the paint caused the Wildcats some issues in the second quarter. Four different Lyons scored at least four points as Lyon County ran the lead out to 48-38 at the half. Bray Kirk had 8 points and Nolan Coffman 6 in the second.
Trigg County stayed in the game from behind the arc, knocking down six threes in the quarter, three of them from Landon Swann.
Lyon County found its eye from behind the 3-point line as the second half got started. The Lyons hit three long shots in the third as they were able to extend the lead to 67-51 going into the final eight minutes of the game. Cooper Collins and Nolan Coffman led the effort for the Lyons in the quarter.
Trigg County battled to stay in the game in the final quarter, knocking down four more three pointers but Lyon’s offensive balance and defensive pressure turned out to be too much in the end.
The Lyons had five players in double figures led by Bray Kirk with 26. Cooper Collins made three 3-pointers and had 19 points. Nolan Coffman and Isaac Defew finished with 17 points each. Carson Collins rounded out the double figures scorers with 10 points.
Landon Swann knocked down seven 3s for Trigg County and had 23 points. Davaree Gude added 16 points. Lance Breckel hit five threes for his 15 points. Caleb Fogle scored 12.
For the night, Trigg County hit 15 threes to just six for the Lyons.
Lyon County (21-6) goes on the road to take on Paducah Tilghman Monday night.
Trigg County (8-19) will host Christian Fellowship Monday night.
