Trigg County sent four middle schoolers to the Region 1 Wrestling Tournament at Central Hardin High School on Saturday and saw two of them qualify for the state tournament.

Kambrie Whitlock (3-2) scored a 27-second win over John Hardin’s Khloe Alford to claim third place in the 235-pound class.

Also qualifying for state was 7th grader Gracee Lingenfelter (15-7) in the 185-pound class. She advanced to the 3rd place match with a pin of McCracken County’s Lillian Harned in the consolation semifinals.

Lingenfelter lost to Nelson County’s Aralynn Boblitt in the 3rd place match. Boblitt is the state’s No. 8 wrestler in the weight class according to Kentuckywrestling.com.

Alani Mayes (11-11) went 2-2 in the 138-pound class and advanced to the third consolation round.

Teresa Helm (3-6) wrestled in the 100-pound class and proved to be a tough out despite an 0-2 record.

The middle schoolers represented Trigg County well with two high schoolers lost to injury. Freshman Bryonah Mayes was injured recently and unable to compete at region.

Junior MaKenna Hendricks, who finished second at region and third at last year’s state tournament, had off-season knee surgery and missed the entire season.

Lingenfelter and Whitlock will compete at the KHSAA State Wrestling Tournament in Lexington on Thursday, February 27.
