
Looking to build momentum ahead of next week’s 8th-District tournament, the Christian County boys’ basketball team put the brakes on a five-game losing streak with a strong overtime performance to knock off hosts Webster County 80-71 on Friday.
The Trojans opened up an early lead behind 10 first-quarter points from Micah Austin. Kahsean Stevenson scored six in the second quarter and Zyon Wharton and Josh Bridges combined for eight for the Colonels, but Austin connected on a trio of three-pointers to send Webster County into the break with a 36-29 lead.
Austin and Reid McDyer each scored four in the third and the Trojans looked to be headed for a victory, but the Colonels rallied with a big final frame to force overtime. NaDarien Rowe erupted for 14 points to help Christian County outscore Webster 21-13 and knot the score at 62-62.
Stevenson posted nine points in overtime and Zion Acree added five while the Colonels held the Trojans to only nine points to pull away for a nine-point win.
Christian County improved to 6-21 ahead of a visit from Daviess County on Saturday. Stevenson led the Colonels with 25, followed by Rowe with 24.
Webster slipped to 10-17 despite a game-high 31 points from Austin. McDyer also reached double figures for the Trojans with 12.
