It has been a pretty successful season thus far for the Dawson Springs Panthers on the basketball court. And, as a result, a member of the Panther basketball team has been honored by the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches by being named their Region Player of the Year

The Region Player of the Year and Region Coach of the Year were announced Friday morning by the association.

In the 2nd Region, Dawson Springs’ Rex Blue was recognized as the boys’ Region Player of the Year. As of Friday morning, Blue was averaging 21.0 points and 9.8 rebounds per game for the Panthers.

Blue’s performance on the court has helped lead Dawson Springs to a 15-13 record, which includes wins over in-county rivals Madisonville-North Hopkins and Hopkins County Central.

By being named Region Player of the Year, Blue is also one of the 16 finalists for the state’s Mister Basketball award.
