
Alicia Davis’ layup with 2.7 seconds to go capped off a wild 9-point rally to end the game as the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers came charging back to knock off the Todd County Central Lady Rebels 57-56 on Senior Night at Todd County Central. The Lady Rebels had appeared to have things going their way with a 56-48 lead in the final minutes but it was not to be.
Hopkinsville got a big fourth quarter from the experienced guard combo of Alicia Davis and Lashanti Wilson, who combined to score 12 of the Lady Tigers 16 points in the final quarter.
Hopkinsville used the long ball to get out to a quick lead Friday night. Threes from Alicia Davis and Kaveyah White, along with a pair of free throws from TaRia Sharber got the Lady Tigers off to an 8-0 start.
The Lady Rebels then finally found their offense and responded with a 14-2 run of their own to go up 14-10. JaMya Kay and Daymea Garrett combined for 11 points during the run. Todd County Central would still be in the lead 14-13 when the opening quarter came to an end.
After a basket from Alexis Taylor started the second quarter, Hopkinsville, getting a strong quarter from Kaveyah White, ripped off seven straight points to take a 20-16 lead.
With JaMya Kay exerting herself inside, the Lady Rebels hit for a 7-0 run of their own to go back up 23-20. The game would be tied at 23-23 and 25-25 before Todd County Central scored the final four points of the half to take a 29-25 lead into the break.
Todd County Central would hold the lead throughout the third quarter. The combination of JaMya Kay and Alexis Taylor came up with 14 points in the third as the Lady Rebel lead ranged between 4 and 10 points. The largest lead came at 47-37 late in the quarter.
Lee Lee Love sparked a little flourish as Hopkinsville scored the final four points in the fourth to make it 47-43 heading into the final eight minutes of the game.
With Alexis Taylor working down inside, the Lady Rebels would twice get the lead to 8 points in the final quarter, once at 49-41 and the last time at 56-48, just ahead of the Lady Tiger rally to close out the game.
Hopkinsville had four players in double figures, led by Lee Lee Love with 12. Alicia Davis, Lashanti Wilson, and Kaveyah White added 11 points. All 11 of Davis’ points came in the second half.
JaMya Kay had 20 points for the Lady Rebels, however, she scored none of those in the final quarter. In her final home game, Alexis Taylor finished the night with 14 points. Daymea Garrett added 9 points for the Lady Rebels.
The Lady Rebels wrap up the season at 14-12 and will now head into next week’s 13th District Tournament at Franklin-Simpson. Todd County Central will take on Logan County Tuesday night at 6:00.
Hopkinsville ends up the regular season at 9-11.The Lady Tigers begin the postseason Monday evening when they take on the Fort Campbell Lady Falcons in an 8th District semifinal Monday night in Tiger Gym.
