
The Hopkins County Central girls’ basketball team will ride a three-game winning streak into Tuesday’s 7th-District tournament matchup with Dawson Springs after a 51-37 victory on Friday at Webster County.
The top-seeded Lady Storm improved to 17-13 ahead of next week’s postseason opener.
Hopkins Central leaned on its defense on Friday, holding the host Lady Trojans to single digits in all but one quarter. Calajia Mason scored five in the opening quarter, and Tyah White added four to give the Lady Storm an early 11-7 advantage.
Kaylyn Braden scored four of the Lady Trojans’ 15 points in the second frame, but White posted seven to keep Hopkins Central in front 25-22 at the break.
White posted seven points again in the third, and the Lady Storm got four from Mason to extend the lead to double digits with a quarter to play. Kenzleigh Harrison scored six of her eight points in the fourth, and Hopkins Central held Webster to eight points to close out the win.
White finished with a game-high 18, followed by Mason with 15 for the Lady Storm.
Braden scored 12 to lead the Lady Trojans, and Jaycie Wright finished with 10.
