After running off five straight victories, including district wins over Fort Campbell, Christian County, and Heritage Christian Academy, the University Heights Academy boys’ basketball team saw its winning run come to an end with a 67-52 setback in Friday’s regular-season finale at Owensboro Catholic.

Elijah Walton scored six in the opening quarter for the Blazers, but Ronald Smith countered with eight for Owensboro Catholic to give the Aces a narrow 14-13 advantage.

UHA’s Tylin George got going with nine points in the second quarter, and the Blazers took a 31-29 edge into the halftime break.

But it was all Aces in the second half, with Smith and Davyn Randolph combining for 12 points to outscore University Heights 21-10 for an eight-point Owensboro Catholic lead.

Smith made sure there would be no comeback with eight points in the fourth to finish with a game-high 26.  Waryn Ebelhar added seven to finish in double figures with 12 points.

University Heights finished the regular season at 9-12 with a matchup with Christian County on Tuesday to open the 8th-District tournament.  The Blazers topped the Colonels 68-56 earlier this month.

George led the Blazers with 24 points, followed by Walton with 12.
