
Top-seeded Logan County built a 20-point first-quarter lead and never looked back on Monday to down Todd County Central 71-42 in the 13th-District semifinals at Franklin-Simpson.
The Rebels’ season ends with a record of 2-27 while the Cougars await the winner of Tuesday’s semifinal matchup between second-seeded Franklin-Simpson and Russellville.
Samson Hightower scored 10 early points and Logan County effectively put the game away in the opening quarter with a 27-7 advantage.
Tay Shemwell knocked down a pair of three-pointers on the way to 11 points in the second frame to help the Rebels outscore the Cougars 17-11. Logan County led 38-24 at the halftime break.
Shemwell added five points in the third and the Rebels trimmed the margin to 11 with a quarter to play. However, Hightower shut the door on any chance of a Rebel rally with 10 more points in the fourth to finish with a game-high 27.
Shemwell led the Rebels with 10 points. Brady Hinton joined Hightower in double digits with 12 for the Cougars.
Logan County improved to 19-10 ahead of Friday’s district championship. The Cougars split a pair of regular-season meetings with Franklin-Simpson and swept Russellville.
