
Lyon County opened its defense of its state title with a 95-24 win over Crittenden County in the 5th District semifinals on Tuesday at Trigg County.
The Lyons jumped out to a 41-4 lead and cruised to the win in a contest in which no Lyon played more than 15 minutes.
Lyon County scored 23 points off 13 first quarter Rocket turnovers and hit 15 of 23 shots, most of them in transition.
Lyon County’s 60-12 halftime lead was its biggest of the first 16 minutes.
The Lyons shot 58% from the field and scored 63 points off 35 Crittenden turnovers.
Five Lyons reached double figures, led by Bray Kirk’s 18 points. Cooper Collins added 15 points, and Nolan Coffman and Jackson Herring added 12 points. Herring’s output was part of a 35-point night from the Lyon County bench.
Crittenden County shot 32% from the field and made only two trips to the free throw line.
Drake Young had 11 points and four rebounds for the Rockets, and Brayden Poindexter added four points.
Lyon County has won 17 straight games against Crittenden County and six straight in district tournament play, improving to 22-6 against Crittenden all-time in the district tournament.
A rough season for Crittenden County ends with an 0-26 record – the school’s first winless campaign since 1991.
Lyon County (23-7) will play Livingston Central for the district title on Friday. The Cardinals beat Trigg County 74-57 in the other semifinal.
Lyon has won the district tournament the last two times it was held at Trigg County (2021 & 2017) and five of the last eight times.
