Not necessarily the news you would like to have going into next week’s 2nd Region tournament if you are the Dawson Springs Panthers. Coach Mickey Blue confirmed to YourSportsEdge.com that he resigned as coach of the Panthers’ basketball team as of 7:00 Friday morning.
The resignation comes the morning after the Panthers lost a tough battle to Madisonville-North Hopkins 70-61 in the 7th District championship game. Dawson Springs scored the first 12 points of the game, only to see the Maroons answer with the next 13 points.
Officials with the Dawson Springs Independent Schools have stated that Dylan Simpson will be taking over as head coach for the remainder of the season.
Blue was recently named as the KABC 2nd Region ‘Coach of the Year’ after leading the Panthers to a 17-15 record, marking the first back-to-back winning seasons for Dawson Springs since 1978-79.
After going 3-27 in his first season as head coach in 2021-22, Blue’s teams improved to 11 wins the following season and 18 wins in 2023-24. He was 49-75 in four seasons. Dawson Springs was the No. 5 team in the region in the KHSAA RPI entering Friday.
Dawson Springs is set to play either Wednesday or Thursday in the boys’ 2nd Region tournament at Madisonville-North Hopkins.

I think the people of Dawson Springs deserve to know what really happened and led to this so called resignation? Something is very off here? They deserve the truth as this is very disappointing and troubling.
I think everyone knows. Dawson Springs can’t get out of the 19th century
A very sad day for Dawson. Best coach they have ever had in years and they can him.
