Nolan Coffman’s bucket ahead of the first quarter horn seemed harmless enough but sparked a 28-10 run that gave Lyon County control as they racked up a seventh straight boys’ 5th District championship on Friday.
The final score was 92-58 in favor of the Lyons in a contest that looked like anything but a blowout in the first eight minutes.
The first quarter featured seven tied and six lead changes as Livingston Central led by as much as five points early.
Logan Wring, who scored 28 points in a semifinal win over Trigg County, scored 14 points in the first quarter that helped the Cardinals to a 22-all tie.
Lyon County coach Ryan Perry switched to a zone defense that kept Wring out of the scorebook until the final minute of the third quarter.
Meanwhile, the Collins twins – Cooper and Carson – keyed the second quarter run that saw Lyon outscore Livingston 28-12.

Carson scored six points, dished out four assists, and had three steals while being a defensive menace. Cooper hit three 3-pointers in the quarter, and Bray Kirk scored 11 of his game-high 33 points in the second frame.
Livingston hit 5 of 10 shots in the second quarter, but 10 turnovers led to 11 Lyon County points as the Lyons led 50-34 at halftime.
Kirk added eight more points in the third quarter as Lyon County extended its lead to 29 points.
Kirk’s 33-point night was one of four double-figure scoring nights for Lyon County.

Cooper Collins scored 20 points and handed out four assists, while Carson Collins scored 12 points, grabbed six rebounds, added six assists, and came up with seven steals on defense.
Coffman chipped in with 11 points and 12 rebounds as Lyon outrebounded Livingston 47-21.
Wring scored 20 points for Livingston Central, which was looking for its first district title in 13 years. Drew Hosick added 13 points.
Lyon County’s district title is its seventh straight – a boys’ record in the 5th District. Caldwell County’s girls won 15 straight from 1991-2005 before they were shuttled off to the 7th District through KHSAA redistricting.
Both teams move into next week’s region tournament at Madisonville. Lyon County will draw either Union County, Dawson Springs, or Hopkinsville. Livingston Central will face Henderson County, Madisonville, or Christian County.
