Lady Storm Survives White-Out Conditions to Advance to 2nd Region Semis

No Tyah White, no problem for Hopkins County Central.

The Lady Storm figured to be at a huge disadvantage without its top scorer and rebounder against Hopkinsville in the first round of the 2nd Region tournament on Monday.

However, Hopkins Central took control of the contest in the first half, and went on to post a surprising 79-54 victory over Hoptown in action at Christian County High School.

Calajia Mason stepped up in White’s absence for the 7th District champions. Mason poured in a game-high 23 points on 10 of 16 shooting from the field.

BriNyah Dulin was 6 of 8 from the floor and had 14 points while Addie Menser was 5 of 10 and had 13 points and six assists.

The Lady Storm (20-13) knew it would need to be efficient offensively without White, who missed the game with an illness.

Hopkins Central was 8 of 13 on 3-pointers in the contest and shot 57.7 percent overall (32 of 54).

Meanwhile, Hopkinsville got up 15 more field goal attempts, but made 12 less, going 20 of 69 for 29 percent.

Lashanti Wilson had 18 points and six rebounds for the Lady Tigers while Alicia Davis had 13 points and six boards.

Hopkins Central never trailed in the contest after opening the night with a 7-2 run.

The margin was 18-10 after one period. The Lady Storm led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter before heading to the locker room with a 39-20 advantage.

Hopkinsville (10-13), which beat Hopkins Central 68-53 in January, could never make a run in the second half in the rematch.

Instead, the Lady Storm pushed its lead to 29 points after the break before settling for the 25-point victory.

Next up for Hopkins County Central is region favorite Henderson County (24-5) in Friday’s semifinals. The Lady Colonels ran past Lyon County 77-40 in Monday’s first quarterfinal round game.
