Another 2nd Region school is searching for a new basketball head coach.
Matt Fraliex announced on social media Tuesday that he has stepped down as boys’ basketball coach at Crittenden County.
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce my resignation as the Boys’ Basketball Head Coach at Crittenden County High School,” Fraliex wrote. “This was an extremely difficult decision to make, and possibly one of the hardest I’ve ever had to make.
“After meeting with administration, it was determined that in the best interest of the basketball program going forward that a change needed to be made.”
Fraliex spent two years as head coach, but faced a rebuilding situation with the Rockets.
Crittenden went 3-25 in his first season, but endured a winless 0-26 campaign this year.
Fraliex was a standout player at Caldwell County and is still the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,941 points. He was on the last district championship team at Caldwell in 2007. He was a finalist for Kentucky Mr. Basketball and played in the Kentucky-Indiana All-Star Series.
Fraliex went on to play college basketball at Murray State University for two seasons, before transferring to Mid-Continent University.
In 2021, Fraliex was named girls’ basketball head coach at Todd County Central. He went 8-16 in one season with the Lady Rebels before returning to Caldwell as an assistant coach on the boys’ team.
“I don’t know at this time what my future holds, but we shall soon find out,” Fraliex noted.
Crittenden County announced that it will begin its search for a new head coach immediately.
Two other 2nd Region head coaches also stepped down within the last week.
Mickey Blue, the 2nd Region Coach of the Year, resigned at Dawson Springs on Friday while Terry Hayes stepped down at University Heights Academy on Monday.
