It is becoming, sadly, an increasing trend across the state, especially in girls’ high school sports. A second girls’ high school sports program in the area has shut down due to not having enough players to field a team.
In a statement Wednesday morning, Christian County school officials announced that Hopkinsville High School will not field a softball team for the 2025 season due to lack of student interest and participation.
In the statement, administration officials say “Hopkinsville High coaching staff and administration made diligent efforts to build a team, but ultimately, were unable to sufficiently fill the roster.”
The statement goes on to say “The focus will now shift to developing student interest and participation for future seasons.”
The Lady Tigers finished the 2024 season with a record of 0-17.
University Heights Academy shuttered its girls’ basketball program prior to the 2023-2024 season.
