Caldwell County pitching allowed Louisville Mercy just two base hits, while the Lady Tiger offense had two home runs in an 8-0 preseason scrimmage win Saturday afternoon.
A five-run fourth inning was the big frame for the Lady Tigers against Mercy Academy, which is the defending 6th Region champion, in action at the Ratliff Park Complex in Princeton.
Caldwell actually got its scoring started in the bottom of the second. Grace Watson walked with two outs, then scored when Carlee Palm’s deep fly ball to left field cleared the fence for a two-run home run.
Palm had a sacrifice fly as part of Caldwell’s eruption in the fourth inning. Daelen Kizzee followed with a two-run single to center to make it 5-0. Brylee Butts then recorded an inside-the-park home run on a deep fly ball to center to push the margin to 7-0.
Palm had another sac fly in the bottom of the fifth to account for Caldwell’s final run.
Palm finished the day 1-for-1 with four runs batted in. Eight different Lady Tigers had one hit each.
Alexis Wood pitched four strong innings in the circle, striking out three and not issuing a walk while allowing just one base hit.
Jackie Farmer went three innings and surrendered one hit while striking out one and walking one.
Caldwell’s girls will open the regular season at defending 2nd Region champion Henderson County on Monday, March 17.
The first home game is Monday, March 24, against defending 1st Region champion McCracken County.
