The Lyon County Lyons are considered by most to be among the contenders for the 2nd Region baseball championship. They did nothing to hurt that perception during Saturday’s preseason scrimmage against Webster County at Lee S. Jones Park.

Lyon County pitching allowed just one hit over the six innings of the scrimmage as the Lyons took a 16-3 win over the Trojans. The Lyons also hammered out 11 hits in the game at the plate.

The Lyons got dominant pitching performances from Eli Baker and Brady Belt, who each went two innings in the scrimmage. Baker gave up no hits, striking out five and walking one. Belt was just as good, giving up no hits, striking out six, and walking one. Freshman Hudson Phillips pitched one hitless inning, striking out two and walking one.

At the plate, Peyton Williams, Turner Hurst, and Hudson Phillips had two hits each. Austin Spears had a three RBI day, while John Bingham drove in two runs.

The Lyons scored at least three runs in four of the six at-bats.
