Cassie Reasner hit only .143 during the 2024 season at Kentucky when she played in 26 games but got only 28 at-bats with  four hits. However, she had a weekend to remember against Missouri to lead UK to a series sweep and earn national honors.

Reasner, a sophomore, had three go-ahead home runs against Missouri all with runners on base in her first three starts in Southeastern Conference play. She drove in five runs Sunday in the sweep-clinching win over the Tigers.

The shortstop drove in 10 of Kentucky’s runs in the first SEC series of the year. She hit .667 with six hits in nine at-bats and also scored four runs. Reasner set new career highs for hits in a game (3), runs batted-in (5) and runs scored (2) in Sunday’s 9-6 win over the Tigers in UK’s first SEC series sweep since the 2023 season.

The sophomore from Harvest, Ala. also did not make an error on defense.

Reasner was named one of the two SEC Players of the Week but she was also picked as one of the Softball America National Stars of the Week along with earning honorable mention for player of the week by the National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association.

Reasner has been impressive all season while starting at shortstop for the first time and also at the plate. She is hitting.349 with 16 runs scored,  three doubles, a team-leading six home runs and 20 RBI, good enough for second on the team.

Kentucky will host No. 18 Virginia Tech today at 5 p.m.
