A six-run fifth inning helped the Union County Bravettes claim a season-opening softball win at Lyon County on Monday.

Ashlynn Hargrove doubled home three runs as part of the big inning, and Union went on to claim an 11-3 victory.

The Lady Lyons had taken a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on RBI singles by Courtney Collins and Olivia Moore.

Meanwhile, Lilly Perry limited Union to just one run through four innings as Lyon held on to a 2-1 lead.

However, the first five Union hitters reached base in the top of the fifth inning.

Jaylen Tackett singled home a run to tie the game at 2-2. Hargrove later unloaded the bases with a double to the fence in left field to put the Bravettes on top for the first time in the contest.

Union added another run when Miley Mendoza grounded into a fielder’s choice to make it a 6-2 ballgame. Aspen Davis drew a bases-loaded walk to push the margin to 7-2.

The Bravettes got two more runs in the sixth on a home run to center by Miley Mosley.

Lyon got one of those runs back in the bottom of the sixth when Moore homered to left. But Union still led 9-3.

The Bravettes added two more tallies in the top of the seventh. Tackett singled home the first run while Sydney Thomas had a sacrifice fly to left to finish the scoring.

Hargrove went 2-for-4 with the three runs batted in for Union. Tackett was 2-for-4 and knocked in two.

Peyton Jenkins went 5.2 innings in the circle to pick up the pitching win. She allowed three earned runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking one.

For Lyon, Moore was 2-for-3 and knocked in two. Audrey Akridge was 2-for-4 with a double and Collins finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The Lady Lyons will see 5th District action on Tuesday when they visit Trigg County.

Union will play at home for the first time on Tuesday against Owensboro Catholic.
