Lady Blazers Make Quick Work of Dawson Springs in Opener (w/PHOTOS)

The University Heights Academy softball team got off to a winning start on Monday with a 21-6 decision over visiting Dawson Springs.  The Lady Blazers won their sixth straight in the series with the Lady Panthers and kicked off the season with a win for the second year in a row after dropping their opener in the previous four.

Dawson Springs took an early lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first before the Lady Blazers answered with four in the bottom of the frame to move in front for good.  Madison Williams and Emily Dilday each singled in runs for UHA.

With the Lady Blazers leading 4-3, Williams’ second RBI single started a 17-run second inning to blow the game open.  Dilday tripled to score two, Olivia Oakley drove in a run with a single, and Katherine Wood helped herself with a three-run triple to make it 20-3.

Wood earned the win in the circle, allowing six unearned runs on a single hit with four walks and five strikeouts over three innings.

Wood and Williams both drove in three runs, and Dilday finished 3/3 at the plate with two RBI.

Tallie Robinson took the loss for Dawson Springs, surrendering 10 runs, nine earned, on four hits with five walks in an inning and a third.  Kara McKnight had the lone hit for the Lady Panthers.

UHA will be back on its home field on Thursday to host Kenwood, TN.

Up next for Dawson Springs is a trip to Mayfield on Tuesday.
