Madisonville-North Hopkins’ Matthew Yates was 3/3 with two RBI and Lane Faulk scattered three hits over five frames to send the Maroons past visiting Ohio County 11-1 in Monday’s season-opener.

RBI singles by Yates and Jaziyon Latham and a run on an Ohio County error made it 4-0 after one, and the Maroons tacked on two more in their second at-bat.

After two scoreless frames, the Madisonville offense cranked up again with Brantley Harris’ second RBI single.  Yates followed with a single to bring in another run, and Alex Richards drew a bases-loaded walk to stretch the lead to 10 and end the game.

Ryder Sandidge finished 3/4 at the plate for the Maroons, Harris had two hits and drove in two, and Faulk added two RBI.

Faulk allowed one unearned run on three hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

Madisonville will be back on its home field on Tuesday to host Hancock County.  The Maroons haven’t begun a season 2-0 since 2019.

Owen McConnell took the loss for Ohio County, surrendering seven runs, four earned, on six hits with four walks.  The Eagles will host Daviess County on Tuesday trying to avoid an 0-2 start.
