Start the music … it is time to DANCE

At his  introductory press conference in April, Mark Pope promised to 20,000 plus members of the Big Blue Nation that the SEC Tournament would matter. It would just mean more than it has under the previous coaching staff. This past weekend in Nashville he held up his end of the promise and the Big Blue Nation showed out.

Bridgestone (arena) was an ocean of blue. There were splatters of other colors but the big blue faithful showed out in full force. The fans just wanted a win, They wanted to celebrate and Pope and the Wildcats delivered. A last second shot by Otega Oweh provided that much needed win and celebration that has been absent for years.

Colin Chandler had his Tyler Ulis moment. No foul called. Lamont Butler aggravated his shoulder and played less than 10 minutes for the entire game. This team did what it does … they dug deep and gave the BBN something to be excited about.

The City of Nashville was grateful for the win also. The majority of fans headed straight to Broadway after the game (1:00 a.m.) to donate to the economy. I am sure some never went to bed and those who did rose early to begin pregaming for the game against Alabama.

The Tide had fresh legs and were well rested. The Cats were not. There is a reason they are one of the top teams in the country … they are good. I do wish someone would do a fashion makeover on Nate Oats. The math teacher look has to be stowed away.

Otega Oweh had to have stitches due to taking a shot in the lip. No foul called. Seems like a pattern doesn’t it? He returned after a stint in the locker room to a standing ovation from the BBN. The Cats rallied but could not overcome the power of a fresh Alabama team.

Mark Pope was clearly defeated after the loss. His positive personality was buried beneath the effects of the lopsided game. He gave no excuses. He did not mention his pets. He was hurt just as was all of Big Blue Nation.

The season starts over now. The Cats will venture at least momentarily away from the grueling SEC conference. Every game counts. Lose and it is over.

This team still has some magic left. This team and their coach cares.

Start the music and let the dance begin Friday in Milwaukee against Troy!
