The Hopkinsville baseball team bounced back from a narrow opening-night defeat to even its record with an 11-1 victory on the road at Union County on Tuesday.  The Braves suffered their first loss after kicking off the season with a win on Monday over visiting Gallatin County, IL.

The Tigers opened the scoring in their first at-bat on Gavin Powell’s RBI single and made it 3-0 when Layton Lindsey grounded into a fielder’s choice that scored two.

Dylan Sweeney’s run-scoring single put Hoptown in front 4-1 in the bottom of the second.  Chase Fort drove in a run in the fifth, and the Tigers used four consecutive walks with the bases loaded and RBI singles by Gavin Mitchell and Jayden Kellum to push six runs across in the sixth.

Sweeney led the way at the plate with three hits, Fort and Kellum hit safely twice, and Lindsey finished with three RBI.

Mitchell went the distance to earn the win, allowing an unearned run on three hits with a pair of walks and seven strikeouts.

Coltin Capps took the loss for the Braves, surrendering five runs, four earned, on seven hits with two walks and a strikeout over four innings.  Payton Garrett had two of Union County’s three hits.

Hopkinsville will be back on the road on Thursday for a matchup with Logan County.
