Henderson County head coach Tyler Smithhart has been chosen the 2nd Region Coaches Association 2024-25 Coach of the Year.
The honor was announced Tuesday night in Madisonville following the championship game of the 2nd Region basketball tournament.
Smithhart will lead Henderson County to the Sweet 16 at Rupp Arena in Lexington next week after the Colonels upended Madisonville-North Hopkins 52-34 for the regional title.
It’s Henderson’s first 2nd Region championship since 1999.
The Colonels, who defeated defending state champion Lyon County in the regional semifinals, will carry a 25-6 mark into the KHSAA State Tournament.
Henderson will face 9th Region champion Cooper next Thursday, March 27, at 7:30 p.m. Central time in the first round.
Smithhart has spent 13 seasons as head coach at Henderson.
