Lyon County used a four-run fifth and held off a seventh-inning rally to top visiting Hickman County 8-7 on Friday for the Lady Lyons’ first win of the season.
Lyon County got off to a quick start thanks to three runs in the bottom of the first, highlighted by a two-run home run by Jenna Coursey.
After working around a two-out triple in the first, Lyon County pitcher Lilly Perry retired the next seven batters in order before running into trouble in the fourth. Kylie Meshew’s RBI single got the Lady Falcons on the scoreboard before Ann White doubled in a pair of runs to tie the game.
Coursey stayed hot with a run-scoring double in the fifth, followed by RBI singles by Olivia Moore and Ava Prow to push the Lady Lyons in front 7-3. Perry helped herself with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth, but Hickman County would make things interesting in its final at-bat.
The Lady Falcons pushed across a pair of runs with four-straight singles to start the top of the seventh, and White’s two-out RBI single cut the Lady Lyons’ lead to a run. However, with a 3-2 count and the tying run on base, Perry coaxed a ground ball to seal the win.
Perry went the distance in the circle, allowing seven earned runs on 11 hits with three walks and nine strikeouts.
Coursey led the Lady Lyons with three hits and three RBI, Courtney Collins finished 2/4 with a pair of runs driven in, and Audrey Akridge had two hits.
For the Lady Falcons, Kaylee Britton was 3/3 with two RBI, and White collected two hits and drove in three runs.
Lyon County has the weekend off before hosting Calloway County on Monday. The Lady Lakers will enter the contest at 0-4 after a lopsided loss to McNairy Central, TN on Friday.
