The Caldwell County Tiger baseball team continues to have the number of its former district rival.
Caldwell has won 20 straight games against Livingston Central after defeating the Cardinals 12-2 in five innings Friday night at the VFW Ballpark in Princeton.
A five-run first inning put the Tigers in front. A four-run fifth helped them end the game early on the 10-run mercy rule.
Caldwell (1-1) used seven base hits, nine walks and five Livingston errors to pick up its first win of the 2025 season.
Meanwhile, Caldwell hurlers Scott Cortner and Mitchell Phelps kept the Livingston offense relatively in check.
Cortner picked up the win. He pitched into the fourth inning, allowing two earned runs on three hits while striking out three and walking one.
Cortner cruised through the first three innings before giving up three straight singles to start the fourth.
Phelps came on in relief and did not allow a hit over the final two innings while fanning three and walking none.
Caldwell led 8-0 before Livingston (1-2) got both of its runs in the top of the fourth.
But the Tigers put the game away with their four-run fifth.
Westin King was 2-for-3 at the plate with three runs batted in while Luke Parker went 2-for-4 and scored three runs for Caldwell. Channing Puckett, Drew Stevens and Cortner each singled.
Livingston got singles from Drew Hosick, Jackson Duncan and Jayce Gillette.
The teams will meet again May 5 in Smithland.
Next up for Caldwell is a home date Saturday at 11 a.m. against Henderson County.
Livingston will play two games at Heritage Christian Academy Saturday afternoon, facing host HCA at noon followed by a game against Russellville.
