The Christian County Lady Colonels took a split for the day Saturday as they traveled to the Trigg County Recreation Complex for games against Marshall County and Owensboro Catholic. The Lady Colonels won their opener against Marshall County and then fell in their second game of the day to the Lady Aces.
In the first game, the Lady Colonels scored in each of their first four at-bats and took advantage of some dicey Lady Marshal fielding to claim an 8-5 win.
The Lady Marshals had issues in the field throughout, being charged with 8 errors in the game, allowing the Lady Colonels to score four unearned runs.
Marshall County scored a run on a double from Allicen Harris in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead. Christian County used two Lady Marshal errors to score a pair in the bottom half of the inning.
Marshall County moved back in front in the top of the 2nd on a two-run homer from Merriel Jackson. Chloe Almy connected for a two-out single in the bottom of the inning that drove in a pair of runs and put Christian County up 4-3. Another Marshall County error allowed Christian County to make it 5-3 in the third.
Avery Adock led off the bottom of the fourth with a blast to left center and extended the Lady Colonel lead to 6-3. Later in the inning, Alondra Rodriguez doubles to push it out to 7-3. Christian County added another run in the inning on yet another Marshal error.
Marshall County scored two in the top of the 5th to cut the lead to 8-5 but that would be the end of any comeback for the Lady Marshals.
Avery Adock and Chloe Almy led the Lady Colonels with two hits each out of the five total hits for Christian County. Almy also had two RBIs.
Avery Adock got the win in the circle in relief, going five innings and giving up 2 unearned runs on three hits, striking out one and walking three.
In the second game, Owensboro Catholic hit the Lady Colonels with 8 runs in the first three innings and got a solid pitching day from junior Hannah Robbins as the Lady Aces picked up their second straight win, upending Christian County 12-2.
Robbins pitched six innings, giving up two runs on just three hits, striking out three and walking four.
The Lady Colonels did not help their own cause in the field, being charged with five errors in the game.
After falling behind 8-0, Christian County scored a run in the top of the fourth and another in the top of the 5th to trim the lead to 8-2. The Lady Aces then closed out the game by scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
