
The Trigg County Wildcats scored in every inning and took advantage of fielding miscues by the Hopkins County Central Storm to pick up a 14-4 five-inning win Saturday afternoon at the Trigg County Recreation Complex. The win was the first of the new season for the Wildcats.
Trigg County scored three in the bottom of the first and four in the bottom of the second to take a 7-0 lead. Aidon Butts and Brody Calhoun had big hits in the early going to jumpstart the Wildcat offense.
A Trigg County error and a dropped third strike opened the door for the Storm to score two in the top of the third. However, Trigg County got those two runs back plus two more in the bottom half of the inning to make it 11-2.
Neilan Bruce drove in a couple of runs with a double in the top of the fourth to trim the lead to 11-4. Trigg County though would get two runs in the bottom of the fourth and then end the game with a run in the bottom of the fifth.
Eight different Wildcats had a hit in the game, led by Bentley Reynolds, who was 2-3 with a double and three runs scored. Aidon Butts finished 1-3 with a double, an RBI, and three runs scored. Brody Calhoun was 1-1 with 3 RBIs. Haydon Reynolds was 1-2 with 2 RBIs and two runs scored. AJarrious Bell was 1-3 with a double and 3 RBIs.
Neilan Bruce was 2-3 with two doubles, two RBIs, and a run scored for Hopkins County Central. Sawyer Allen was 1-2 with an RBI.
Ty Gootee got the start and picked up the win for Trigg County (1-1). He went 3 ⅔ innings, giving up four runs, three of them earned, on three hits, striking out 10 and walking for.
Neilan Bruce was tagged with the loss for Hopkins County Central (1-3). He went 1 ⅓ innings, giving up six runs on three hits, striking out one and walking five.
Errors were costly for the Storm as they were charged with four fielding miscues on the day.
