Hopkinsville sophomore Evangeline Freeman qualified for the KHSAA State Archery Tournament after a sixth-place finish at Saturday’s Region 1 Tournament at Trigg County.
Freeman shot a 283 to nab the final qualifying spot in the event. Her score on Saturday continues her strong shooting over the past month. She shot a 286 to win the HCA Warrior Shootout on March 8 and followed with a 277 to finish 178th out of 1,551 archers at the NASP State Tournament last week.
Freeman is the first Hopkinsville archer to advance to the state tournament since Mary Poe in 2018.
As a team, Hopkinsville finished in fifth place with 1,878 points. Henderson County took the region title with 1,943 points.
Luanna Acree shot a 278 to finish in 14th place, and Allison Buckner shot a 276 to finish in 15th place.
Aubrey Moore (270) finished in 32nd place followed by Katelynn Agosto (261) in 55th place; Hayden Jones (255) in 76th place; Ameerah Acree (255) in 77th place; Tara Hensley (253) in 80th place; and Peyton Denton (232) in 107th place.
Unlike NASP tournaments where the top 12 scores of both and girls go toward a team score, the KHSAA takes the top seven scores of each gender to determine and boys’ and girls’ team and individual champion.
The KHSAA state archery tournament will be on April 17 in Lexington.
