Trigg County senior Mackenzie Cooper will shoot at the KHSAA State Archery Tournament for the third time after her runner-up finish at the Region 1 Tournament on Saturday.
Cooper shot a 287 to finish one point behind region winner DixiAnne Nurrenbern of Henderson County.
Cooper’s score was her highest in two years and three off her best score in 2022.
She finished 72nd at the state tournament in 2023 and 127th in 2022.
Last week, she shot 280 to finish 117th out of 1,551 shooters at the NASP State Tournament in Louisville.
As a team, Trigg County finished in sixth place with 1,876 points. Henderson County won the region title with 1,943 points. Unlike NASP tournaments, where the top 12 scores of both boys and girls go toward a team score, the KHSAA takes the top seven scores of each gender to determine the boys’ and girls’ team and individual champions.
Megan Wadlington shot a 281 to finish in eighth place, missing a trip to state by two points.
Jaslyn Walter shot a 272 to finish in 27th place followed by Makenna Southwick (261) in 58th place; Taryn Carter (259) in 61st place; Netra Patel (258) in 64th place; Kaylee Holland (258) in 68th place; Piper Mackey (256) in 75th place; Madison Fears (253) in 81st place; Jessa White (245) in 95th place; Klara Brown (244) in 99th place; and Serena Hanson (206) in 112th place.
The KHSAA State Tournament will be on April 17 in Lexington.
