Madisonville-North Hopkins came up just short in its bid for a first trip to the KHSAA State Archery Tournament in a decade.
The Lady Maroons finished in third place at Saturday’s Region 1 Girls’ Archery Tournament at Trigg County. Madisonville scored 1,917 points to finish behind region champion Henderson County (1,943) and Webster County (1,933). Only the top two teams qualify for the KHSAA State Tournament.
Addie Burns missed qualifying for her third state tournament by four shots, shooting a 279. She still brought home a 10th-place finish to lead Madisonville. Last week, she shot a 275 at the NASP State Tournament in Louisville to finish 241st out of 1,551.
Beyli Deras shot a 278 to finish in 13th place, and Madelyn Simpson shot a 275 to come in 18th place.
Caitlin McClain (273) finished in 26th place, followed by Josie Morris (272) in 28th place; Arieana Shrewsberry (271) in 29th place; Keely Peyton (269) in 35th place; Melody Kincaid (267) in 42nd place; Jayden Reeves (267) in 43rd place; Aubrie McGuyer (265) in 46th place; Kendall Patterson (256) in 74th place; and Iliana Deras (247) in 90th place.
Unlike NASP tournaments, where the top 12 scores of both boys and girls count toward a team score, the KHSAA takes the top seven scores of each gender to determine the boys’ and girls’ team and individual champions.
