Storm Survives Cardinals’ Late Rally for 8-7 Win

The Hopkins Central Storm edged out the Livingston Central Cardinals 8-7 in a tight contest played in Mortons Gap Monday night.

Livingston Central took an early 2-0 lead, fueled by Jayce Gillette’s double in the first and an error in the second.

Hopkins Central responded with a four-run outburst in the fourth, seizing a 4-2 advantage.

After Central extended the lead to 5-2, Livingston Central narrowed the gap to 5-4 in the fifth with Jackson Duncan’s solo home run and Avery Ziam’s fielder’s choice.

Hopkins Central then added three big runs in the bottom of the fifth to push the lead out to 8-5.

Despite a late rally by Livingston Central in the sixth, Hopkins Central held on for the 8-7 victory.

Gaige Brasher led Hopkins Central’s offense, going 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Neilan Bruce drove in two runs.

Keegan Allen pitched for Hopkins Central, allowing four hits and five earned runs with five strikeouts.

Jackson Duncan starred for Livingston Central, going 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs.

Jayce Gillette, Livingston Central’s starter, surrendered 10 hits and eight earned runs, striking out two.

Livingston Central falls to 3-3 and will host Crittenden County on Thursday.

Hopkins Central improves to 2-3 and travels to Caldwell County for a district game on Tuesday.
