A night after failing to score in a late-inning All-A loss to Clinton County, the Todd County Central Rebels scored early on Tuesday and made it stand up on the way to a 5-3 victory at Butler County.
The Rebels turned one hit into four runs in their first at-bat against Butler County starter Duncan Tyree, taking advantage of a couple of errors and Ty Jolly’s steal of home.
Devin Schutt’s RBI single made it 5-0 in the top of the fifth, but the Bears answered with a two-out rally to push three runs across in the bottom of the inning.
Todd Central’s Tommy Van Beber worked six and two-thirds strong innings for the win, allowing three unearned runs on five hits with four walks and seven strikeouts. Jolly came on in relief to strike out the final batter.
Aidan Bobbett finished with two hits for the Rebels, and Schutt and Conner Wheeler each had one.
Tyree took the loss for Butler County, surrendering four runs, two earned, on a hit with two walks and a strikeout. Brayden Clark pitched well in relief, holding Todd Central to a single run on three hits with no walks and six strikeouts over six frames.
The Rebels improved to 3-1 ahead of a visit from Northeast, TN on Thursday.
