Rylann Griggs’ sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth capped a slugfest between 13th-District rivals Todd County Central and visiting Logan County on Tuesday, with the Lady Rebels prevailing 19-18 to improve to 2-1.

Todd Central won for only the second time in the last 12 in the series, avenging a 6-5 loss to the Lady Cougars in last season’s district tournament.

Haley Henson’s RBI double capped Logan County’s six-run second for a four-run Lady Cougar advantage.  However, the Lady Rebels trimmed it to 6-4 on Addison Woodall’s RBI triple and a run-scoring single by Naomi Welborn.

After four more runs for Logan in the top of the fourth, Todd Central got a parade of RBI singles by Olivia Weikel, Welborn, Ella Hall, Woodall, and a second of the inning for Weikel, to plate eight runs and move in front 12-10.

The teams combined for 11 runs in the fifth inning, including an RBI triple by Logan’s Caris Taylor.  The Lady Rebels took advantage of a pair of bases-loaded walks, a run on a passed ball, and another on a Lady Cougar error to lead 17-16 after five.

Logan County evened things up in the sixth on Macie Clinard’s RBI single, and took the lead in the top of the seventh on a single by Kallie Taylor to drive in a run.  But the Lady Rebels had the answer, loading the bases with one out before Dakotah Gammon grounded into a fielder’s choice to knot the game at 18-18.

Addison Woodall pitched around a pair of Logan County singles in the eighth, coaxing a pop out with runners at second and third to end the inning.

Aubrey Perone opened the Lady Rebel half of the eighth with a double and went to third on the throw.  Griggs lifted the first pitch she saw to center field to bring in the decisive run.

Woodall earned the win in the circle, allowing 13 runs, 10 earned, on 17 hits with four walks and six strikeouts.  Abby Craig came on in the fifth, giving up five runs, one earned, on two hits before handing the ball back to Woodall with one out in the inning.

Woodall had a monster night at the plate, going 5/5 with four RBI, Perone finished with four hits and an RBI, and Gammon had three hits and drove in two runs.  Weikel had two hits and drove in three, Welborn collected two hits and two RBI, and Hall had a hit with two runs driven in.

Henson took the loss for the Lady Cougars, surrendering two earned runs on two hits with a pair of walks and three strikeouts over two and two-thirds innings.

Madelyn Burgess led Logan County at the plate with four hits and an RBI, Clinard finished with two hits and five RBI, Caris Taylor collected three hits with three runs driven in, Kallie Taylor had three hits and drove in three runs, and Henson hit safely twice with three RBI.

Up next for the Lady Rebels is a visit from Kenwood, TN on Friday before they hit the road for a doubleheader at Hopkins County Central on Tuesday.
