The Heritage Christian Academy Lady Warriors found a way to survive a tough night in the field Thursday to pull out a big district win over University Heights. HCA got past 7 errors and took advantage of 23 walks from Lady Blazers’ pitching en route to a 16-13 win.
The game entered the 7th inning all knotted up at 11-11 after the Lady Warriors had scored in four of their first five at-bats while the Lady Blazers put up runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings.
The Lady Warriors started the 7th inning getting on base with a dropped 3rd strike, a hit batter, and a walk. Hadlee Hayes then singled to drive in two runs and put HCA up 13-11. Madison Warren then blasted a double to left that drove in two more runs and made it 15-11. A wild pitch later allowed Warren to score and push the lead out to 16-11 heading into the bottom half of the seventh.
UHA tried to come back in the bottom of the inning. Madison Williams reached on a one-out error and then scored on a single from Brooke Hancock to trim the lead to 16-12. Hancock would score on a hit from Gracie Ausenbaugh, but that would be the end of the rally for the Lady Blazers.
Presley Brewer led HCA (3-2), going 2-6 with an RBI. Hadlee Hayes ended up 1-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Ava DeJager was 1-3 with a double and three runs scored. Madison Warren was 1-3 with a double, two RBIs, and three runs scored.
Brooke Hancock was hot for the Lady Blazers (2-2). She went 4-5 with a triple, 5 RBIs, and three runs scored. Katherine Wood, Emily Dilday, and Gracie Ausenbaugh had three hits each for UHA, which outhit Heritage Christian 15 to 6 for the game.
