
The Union County Lady Braves only needed four innings to dispatch visiting Hopkins County Central on Thursday, banging out 17 hits on the way to a 16-0 victory.
The Lady Storm threatened early with a pair of singles with one out in the top of the first, but couldn’t push a run across and were held to only three hits the rest of the way.
Jaylen Tackett got the Lady Braves started with a three-run home run in the bottom of the first, and Bryleigh Walsh’s RBI double made it 6-0.
Ashlynn Hargrove’s run-scoring double highlighted a two-run second for Union County, and the Lady Braves added three more runs in the bottom of the third.
An RBI double by Walsh made it 13-0, and Tackett closed the show with a two-run double for the final score.
Emily Ballard took the loss in the circle, allowing 16 runs, 10 earned, on 17 hits in three innings. She was also 2/2 at the plate for the Lady Storm.
Tackett finished with three hits and six RBI, Wilson was 3/3 with three runs driven in, Audrey Staley also had three hits and an RBI, and Sydney Thomas and Hargrove each collected two hits and drove in a run.
Hopkins Central slipped to 1-8 ahead of a doubleheader on Saturday against Butler and Breckinridge County.
Union County improved to 5-1 with a district showdown with Henderson County coming up on Friday. The Lady Braves have lost the last 15 in the series with the Lady Colonels dating back to 2017.
