Until Trigg County’s bats get going, Coach Monty Todd knows his Lady Wildcat team has a razor-thin margin of error.

That element was magnified on Thursday as Trigg County managed four hits from two players in a 1-0 loss to Webster County.

The fifth inning proved to be a microcosm of the night as Livia Breckel and MaKenna Hendricks singled to start the inning that saw Trigg enter down 1-0. The next two batters couldn’t get a bunt down, and Lady Trojan pitcher Chloe Papineau fanned three straight batters to end the threat.

The only other chance Trigg had to tie the game came in the sixth inning when Kady Fuller drove a pitch to the wall in left field, where Olivia Chandler grabbed it ahead of the warning track.

Papineau needed only 76 pitches to get her second win of the season. She allowed two singles to Breckel and a single and double to Hendricks. She didn’t walk a batter and struck out eight.

Webster County scored the game’s only run in the second inning helped by two Trigg errors. Klaire Scott laid down a bunt that allowed Kennedy Warren to score. Four singles dotted the Webster scoresheet as Tember Oliver struck out 10 and didn’t walk a batter for Trigg, but was tagged with the loss.

Trigg’s low margin of error has shown in a 2-4 start. The Lady Wildcats are batting just .166 this season with 15 runs scored. Oliver has a 1.12 ERA in four starts but just a 2-2 record.

For Trigg County, Thursday was its first 1-0 game since 2023 when they beat Crittenden County 1-0 and lost to Perry County Central 1-0 in the span of a week.

Webster County evens its record at 3-3 and will play Ballard Memorial and Calloway County on Friday in Murray.

Trigg County will host Crittenden County on Friday and welcome Kirkwood, Tenn., and Massac County, Ill,. to the Rec Complex on Saturday.
