A big late-inning rally turned out to be the difference for the Trigg County Wildcats Thursday evening. The Wildcats rallied to score five runs in the bottom of the 6th as Trigg came from behind to get a 7-3 win over Stewart County at the Trigg County recreation complex, ending a two-game losing skid.
The Wildcats entered the inning trailing 3-2. Trigg County (2-3) started the comeback with back-to-back-to-back singles from Ty Gootee, Aaden Allen, and Bentley Reynolds. Aidon Butts grounded into a fielder’s choice scoring pinch-runner Carson Kline to tie the game at 3-3.
After an out, Slaton Carter walked to force in the go-ahead run and put Trigg County up 4-3. Aidon Butts scored on a dropped third strike that should have ended the inning for Stewart County and the lead was 5-3. A Stewart County error allowed the Wildcats to score two more runs and push the lead out to 7-3.
Ty Gootee pitched his third inning of relief to close out the game and pick up the win for Trigg County in the top of the seventh.
Aaden Allen and Chase Hampton had two hits each to lead Trigg County. Allen also added an RBI to his totals, one of five Wildcats to drive in a run during the win. Both of Hampton’s hits were doubles. The Wildcats ended up out-hitting Stewart County 7 to 5.
Trigg County is set to get back to action Saturday with games against Murray and Massac County at Murray.
