A tough trip to Bowling Green Saturday for the University Heights Academy Blazers. The Blazers headed off to Warren County for a pair of games against the Greenwood Gators.
Greenwood, which was coming off its first loss of the season Thursday night in a one-run decision to Owensboro Catholic, got back on track by sweeping the pair from the Blazers.
In the opener, UHA took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the third, only t see the Gators score four runs in their next three at-bats to take the five-inning win 12-2.
The Blazers mustered just three hits in the game, two coming from Cadence Gibson and one from Jackson Flynn. Gibson also drove in a run.
Hayden Hunt went three innings and was tagged with the loss despite not giving up an earned run. Only four of the Gators 12 runs were earned in the game.
In the second game of the day, the Blazers again took a 2-0 lead. This time, the Gators rallied to tie the game with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and then took the 4-2 win by adding two more in the bottom of the sixth and then holding the Blazers in the top of the seventh.
Greenwood outhit UHA 5 to 4. The Blazers also hurt their cause with three errors.
Ryan Luckey, Cadence Gibson, Hayden Hunt, and Jackson Flynn had one hit each. Hunt and Aiden Jones had one RBI each.
Cadence Gibson was tagged with the loss for the Blazers, going five innings on the mound.
The pair of losses drop UHA to 4-3 on the season.
