Caldwell Streak Hits 7 with 9-1 Win over Calloway

Caldwell County opened the season with a loss at Paducah Tilghman, but the Tigers have rolled off seven straight wins since then.

The latest is a 9-1 triumph over Calloway County in action Saturday at the VFW Ballpark in Princeton.

After allowing nine runs in their only setback, Caldwell has given up just 12 runs in its last seven outings.

Junior Ethan Ramage went six strong innings against Calloway, allowing just one earned run on one base hit. Ramage struck out eight and walked three.

Mitchell Phelps gave up a base hit in the seventh but got the final three outs to nail down the victory.

The Tigers have a team earned run average of 1.96 through eight games.

Caldwell (7-1) put up three-run frames in the first, second and fifth innings.

Westin King, Derek Wilson and Channing Puckett each had RBI singles in the bottom of the first for the Tigers.

Ari Wells singled home two runs in the second inning while Drew Stevens knocked in another run with a single to center. That made it 6-0.

Calloway (3-2) got on the scoreboard in the fourth with a walk, a single and an RBI groundout to seond by Brendan Cavitt.

Caldwell scored its final three runs in the fifth. Puckett singled home a run. Wilson scored from third on a wild pitch. David Ginn picked up an RBI with a single to extend the lead to 9-1.

The Tigers finished the victory in style with double plays to end both the sixth and seventh innings.

A liner to third base was turned into a 5-3 double play for the final two outs of the sixth. Caldwell turned a 4-6-3 double play to end the contest.

King, Stevens, Puckett and Ginn each went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Tigers. Luke Parker was 2-for-4 with a double while Wilson also finished 2-for-4.

Taylor Morrow went 2-for-3 with both hits for Calloway.

Caldwell had an 11-game winning streak late last season while posting a 27-7 mark.

The Tigers’ regional championship team of 2016 owns the two longest winning streaks in school history — 13 games and 12 games.

Caldwell will next play at Henderson County on Monday.
