The Christian County Colonels fell behind early Saturday and then could not recover as they dropped a 6-4 road decision at South Warren. The loss ended a five-game winning streak for the Colonels.
The Colonels took a 1-0 lead, scoring a run in the top of the first on s sac fly from Blake Boehman.
South Warren used two home runs and a couple of Christian County errors to score three runs in the bottom of the first and three more in the bottom of the second to go up 6-1.
Christian County (6-3) trimmed a run off the lead with another sacrifice fly, this time from Gage Montes in the top of the fifth to make it 6-2.
The Colonels made one last charge in the top of the 7th. The first three batters reached base on a pair of walks and a single. Gage Montes grounded into the second out of the inning to score Thadius Tolliver and cut the lead to 6-3. A single from Blake Boehman made it 6-4 and gave the Colonels runners on the corners.
But the rally would end there as Preston Stokes grounded out to wrap up the game.
Five different Colonels had a hit in the game as Christian County was outhit 7 to 5 by the Spartans. Aiden Lewis, Sebastian Dazey, Gage Montes, Blake Boehman, and Layton Creamer had one hit each. Montes and Boehman had two RBIs each.
Aiden Lewis gave the Colonels a big effort on the mound in relief. He pitched four innings, giving up no runs on just one hit, striking out seven and walking none, and giving the Colonels a chance to get themselves back into the game.
