Cougars Claw Past Todd County Central

McLean County broke open a tight game with the Todd County Central Rebels by scoring 9 runs in the 5th and 6th innings as the Cougars pulled away for a 13-4 win Friday night in Elkton. The win ended a three-game losing skid for the Cougars.

After seeing McLean County take a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, the Rebels came back to score four runs in the bottom of the second to grab a 4-3 lead of their own. Devin Schutt had the big hit in the inning with a 3-run single.

McLean County tied it in the top of the third and then broke the game wide open with 3 runs in the 5th and then six more in the 6th.

The Rebels did not help their cause any in the field. Todd County Central was charged with 5 errors in the game which allowed the Cougars to score six unearned runs. Todd Central pitchers also had their issues with control, spotting the Cougars 12 walks over the seven innings.

Todd County Central was limited to just two hits for the night, those coming off the bats of Devin Schutt and Lane Thomas.

Conner Wheeler got the start on the mound for the Rebels. He went 5 innings, giving up 7 runs, only 4 of them earned, on five hits, striking out three and walking five.

The loss drops the Rebels to 3-3 on the season.
