A big win and a big loss was the story of the day Saturday for the Fort Campbell Lady Falcons as they hit the road to the cavelands to take on the Caverna Lady Colonels. Fort Campbell won the opener 13-1 and then lost the second game of the day 17-1.
The opening game saw Hailey Herron throw a five-inning no-hitter in the Lady Falcon win. Herron gave up one run on no hits, striking out six and walking three.
The only run for Caverna came on a walk, a ground out, and two stolen bases.
Fort Campbell scored all the runs it would need with three runs in the first inning. The Lady Falcons added seven in the fourth, and three more to wrap up the game in the top of the fifth.
Emma Kolmerton was 3-3 with a double, a triple, an RBI, and a run scored. Ryleigh Watry finished the game 2-3 with a home run, three RBIs, and two runs scored.
The second game was a complete reversal of the first.
Caverna put up 17 runs in just three innings in rolling to the 17-1 win. After being no-hit in the first game, the Lady Colonels came out and rapped out 10 hits in the second, outhitting Fort Campbell 10 to 2.
The Lady Falcons only run came in the top of the second when Braelyn Penley singled to lead off the inning, advanced on a ground out, and then stole third and home.
Caverna pitcher Jayanah Nuckols gave up one run on two hits, striking out two and walking one in picking up the win.
With the split, Fort Campbell goes to 2-6 for the season.
