Taylor County’s Cole McLean got the best of the Lyon County lineup Sunday. The Cardinals’ junior helped his team end a two-game losing skid by shutting down the Lyon County offense as Taylor County handed the Lyons their third straight loss 8-0 in a game played at Somerset.
McLean worked six innings on the mound for Taylor County, giving up no runs on six hits, striking out 11 and walking only one. Isaac Burress pitched a hitless seventh inning to close out the win for the Cardinals.
McLean also helped his own cause with a solo home run at the plate.
Taylor County scored single runs in the first, second, third, and fourth innings and then put the game away with four runs in the top of the seventh.
Korben Lucas was 2-3 for the Lyons. Hudson Phillips also went 2-3. John Bingham and Brady Belt added one hit each.
Eli Baker got the start for Lyon County and went five innings on the bound. He gave up four runs on seven hits, striking out five and walking two.
Lyon County drops to 3-4 with the loss.
