A pair of big pitching efforts Saturday for the Trigg County Wildcats. Jon Humphries gave the Wildcats a quality start and Aidon Butts was lockdown in relief as Trigg County went on the road and picked up a 3-1 win at Murray.
Humphries went three innings in start and gave up one run on two hits, striking out one and walking two. And, if the Tigers thought they were having a tough time against Humphries, they had not seen anything yet.
Butts entered the game in the bottom of the fourth and went the rest of the way, giving up no runs on no hits, striking out 8 and walking only one.
Both teams scored a run in the first and then Trigg added two runs in the top of the second for the last scoring in the game for either team.
Chase Hampton drove in a run with a double in the first to put the Wildcats up 1-0. After Murray tied the game in the bottom of the first, Trigg County got RBI singles from Bentley Reynolds and Slaton Carter to take the lead back for good.
For the game, Trigg County outhit Murray 7 to 2. The only real issue for the Wildcats in the game was three errors in the field.
With the Saturday win, Trigg County improves to 3-3 for the season.
