Opening play on their spring break trip to Fort Walton Beach, FL on Monday, the Hopkinsville Tigers found runs hard to come by in a 4-1 loss to Daviess County at Choctawhatchee High School.

The Tigers jumped in front with a run in the first inning courtesy of a Daviess County error, but the Panthers answered with a two-run triple by Gavin Howard to take the lead for good.

Lucas Ward’s RBI double made it 3-1 in the bottom of the second, and Noah Ranburger’s run-scoring single in the fifth rounded out the scoring.

Gavin Mitchell took the loss for Hopkinsville, allowing three earned runs on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts over three and a third innings.  Chase Fort and Griffen Meacham each had two hits for the Tigers.

Logan Mewes picked up the win on the mound, giving up an unearned run on four hits with a walk and three strikeouts over four and a third.  Mewes was also 2/2 at the plate, and Howard finished with two hits and two RBI.

Hopkinsville slipped to 2-3 ahead of matchups with Talawanda, OH, and Male on Wednesday.
