Madisonville-North Hopkins got off to a slow start on Monday at USA Baseball Field #1, managing a single hit in a 7-0 loss to undefeated Hampshire, IL.
The Maroons slipped to 4-3 ahead of a matchup with St. Patrick, IL, on Tuesday, while the Whip-Purs extended their perfect start to the season to 9-0.
Anthony Karbowski got Hampshire started with a two-run home run in the top of the fourth, followed by Calen Scheider’s three-run triple for a 5-0 Whip-Purs advantage.
Hampshire closed the scoring with RBI singles by Eric Jackson and Jack Perrone in the fifth. Jackson finished 3/4 at the plate, and Karbowski and Perrone each collected two hits.
Nathan Wians earned a complete-game victory, allowing a single hit with a walk and five strikeouts.
Evan Lear took the loss for the Maroons, surrendering seven earned runs on eight hits with four walks and six strikeouts over four and a third innings. Jaziyon Latham had Madisonville’s lone hit.
