Wins over two ranked teams in his first two career outings on the mound, that is a pretty good start to a high school career. You might even call him ‘Rollin’ Nolan at this point.

Christian County freshman Nolan Young pitched a strong 6 ⅓ innings Tuesday night as the Colonels handed South Warren a 5-3 loss, the Spartans first defeat of the season. Christian County’s win comes just three days after the Colonels dropped a 6-4 decision at South Warren.

Young gave up the three runs, two of them earned, on five hits. He struck out nine South Warren batters while walking three.

Sebastian Dazey came in to get the last two outs of the game and pick up the save.

The game was a scoreless pitchers duel until the bottom of the fourth. Christian County loaded the bases with no outs on a walk to Gage Montes and then back-to-back singles from Blake Boehman and Preston Stokes. Layton Creamer grounded out to score Montes and give the Colonels a 1-0 lead. A two-out error by the Spartans allowed Christian County to expand the lead to 3-0.

Jonathan Lewis then singled to drive in a run. Aiden Lewis came up with an RBI double and the Colonel lead was up to 5-0 when the inning came to an end.

South Warren finally got to Nolan Young in the top of the 5th. The Spartans scored two runs off two hits and a couple of walks to trim the lead to 5-2.

But Young would buckle down and get out of the inning and then keep the clamps on the Spartans until he left the game in the top of the 7th.

Aiden Lewis had a big night at the plate for Christian County, going 2-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Preston Stokes, Blake Boehman, and Jonathan Lewis had one hit each for the Colonels.

South Warren starter Austin Allen entered the night having not given up a run in 11 innings of work. Allen was charged with five runs, only one of them earned. He struck out five and walked one.

Christian County improves to 7-3 with the win, which is the Colonels’ sixth in the last seven games.
