
Calloway County’s Nick Cantrell struck out 11 and allowed just three base hits as the Lakers shut out Hopkins County Central 10-0 Tuesday in a Kentucky 2A Championships sectional quarterfinal matchup.
Calloway (4-3) used a four-run third ining and a five-run fourth to take control of the contest.
A run in the bottom of the sixth inning ended the game on the 10-run mercy rule.
Cole Lockhart went 3-for-3 to lead the Lakers. Noah Stallons was 2-for-2 while Cuyler McDaniel went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs.
Cantrell, who did not walk a batter on the mound, was 2-for-4 at the plate while Iziah Cruz was 1-for-4 with a double for Calloway, which used 11 base hits and eight walks to score its 10 runs.
For Hopkins Central (2-7), Gaige Brasher, Jak Mitchell and Kullen Marshall each singled.
