While the monsoon rains were falling at home, the Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons picked up a pair of wins Thursday at the Ripken Experience in Pigeon Forge. The Lady Maroons slugged their way to a 13-7 win over the Copley Lady Indians in the first game of the day and then fought their way to a 7-6 win over Hendersonville to complete their doubleheader.
Against Copley, Sadie Kirk had a huge day in the leading the Lady Maroons to the win. The 8th grader went 5 for 5 with two triples, three RBIs, and three runs scored.
The Lady Maroons pounded out 19 hits and scored in every inning but the top of the 7th to get the win. Mackenzie Stoltz and Nevaeh Lindle added three hits each in the win for Madisonville.
Kirk also went the distance in the circle, giving up 7 runs, only three of them earned, on 7 hits, striking out nine and walking five.
In the game against Hendersonville, the Lady Maroons rallied from six runs down to come back and take the 7-6 win. Madisonville headed into the bottom of the fifth trailing 6-0. The Lady Maroons then scored three in the fifth, two in the sixth, and two in the bottom of the seventh.
Mackenzie Stoltz hit an RBI triple to tie the game in the seventh and then Sydney Skeen walked it off with a single to right.
Another big game for Sadie Kirk, who went 3 for 4 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored. Mackenzie Stoltz finished 2-4 with a home run, a triple, 3 RBIs, and two runs scored.
Stoltz went the distance in the circle, giving up six runs, four of them earned, on 8 hits, striking out 12 and walking five.
With the pair of wins, the Lady Maroons now go to 7-6 for the season.
